Cats dig deep

In a game that many had described as a must win Kentucky showed enough grit to get a 3 point win over rival Florida. Jodie Meeks had a team high 23 points including the game winning three pointer with just five seconds remaining in the game. Nick Calathes who had a game and career high 37 points was fouled on a three point attempt with just 0.6 seconds remaining, but all missed all three free throws to help secure the Kentucky win.

Kevin Galloway made his case for being the starting Point Guard as he had 6 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds, and only 4 turnovers. He came and completely took over the game and was really a catalyst to the win last night. It will be very interesting to see if he can come back on Saturday and turn in another good performance.

Michael Porter, Perry Stevenson, and Josh Harrellson all had great games and in my opinion these 3 plus Galloway and the two freshmen continually playing well will be the key to the rest of the season. We all saw the last three games that it will be very hard to win with just Patterson and Meeks scoring. If you can get 30-35 points a game and solid defense combined from these players than this can be a team that will be very dangerous come March.

Rupp was rocking last night unlike it had in a long time and hats off to the 24,000 plus that were there last night. This was game that the Cats could not afford to lose and the fans did their part in cheering on the team and making deafening noise when Florida had the basketball and most importantly when Nick Calathes was attempting to tie the game. So again hats off to the crowd as they came out rocking when they could have been down and ready to moan and groan at any mistake after a three game losing streak, but they were the complete opposite which had to have had a huge effect on the Cats last night.

Patrick Patterson who went down last night with a sprained is listed as day to day. I would not in the least bit be surprised to see him play little to not at all on the road Saturday against Arkansas.

Thats it for now. Have a good night and I know I will as it appears that Duke will lose which always makes for a good night

  1. The game was sloppy. If Florida actually had someone other than Calathes to help the team out, then Florida would have had a much better chance. But Florida came up short. UK played pretty good ball. No team was more dominant than the other. Meeks was just a beast on that three pointer. Calathes can only do so much, and he just couldn’t focus on the shots he had to make. You can’t expect the kid to BE the team. As the old saying goes, there is no “I” in team. In all honesty, I don’t think any SEC team will hang in the tournament very long. Sure… You could say LSU, SC, UK, and UF have good chances. But each team has caved when they should not have. I just don’t see the SEC matching up with the Big East and ACC. Maybe next year when the boys of the SEC are a year older, they can strike when their hot. I’m looking forward to that. But I just don’t see much upside for the SEC in the tournament. Which leads to a dissapointment in watching the games. I say “BRING BACK FOOTBALL!”

    The End.
